Some Resources for Understanding Repertory Grid

Here are a number of resources which can be used for study and personal research to gain a good understanding of Personal Construct Psychology and the Repertory Grid interview and their application

Distance Learning Course

Fay Fransella and Nick Reed have announced that the Centre for Personal Construct Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, is offering a six part distance learning course in PCP entitled “The Basics of Personal Construct Psychology and its Methods of Inquiry”. The aim of this course is to give students a solid foundation in personal construct theory and several personal construct methods including: triadic elicitation of constructs; laddering and pyramiding; ratings repertory grids; resistance-to-change grids; implications grids and self-characterisations.

There is also available a specialised version for researchers.

This new version of the course includes instruction on the design, administration and analysis of 'standard form' repertory grids e.g. for conducting surveys, using constructs elicited from a number of individuals. Self-characterisations will also be studied, as will Resistance to Change grids. As with the original course, this course also provides students with a solid foundation in personal construct theory

Introduction to the Repertory Grid Interview

Introduction to the Repertory Grid Interview by Martin Fromm (Waxmann) begins with a short introduction to the theoretical background and moves on to discuss typical steps of the grid method before it describes selected variants. The book stresses the processes leading up to the collection of data. The initial focus is on how meaningful data can be produced. In the description and discussion of the process of data collection, special attention is given to the typical problems beginners experience experimenting with the grid interview. Refer to http://www.waxmann.com/index2.html?kat/1394.html.
